The garden inspires, encourages and reminds us of the big picture. Life grows all around, and each life experiences the seasons and has a cycle. Louann Asplund has experienced her season, she passed away peacefully with family on June 13th, 2022 at the age of 89. She was the proud mother of six children, Blake (Heather), Lee, Laura (Delon), Karen (Dwayne), Loy (Barry) and Kyle (Angie); Grandmother to, James (Jen), Marilou (Kurt), Lauren (Peter), Woody (Malauney), Stephanie (Scott), Drue (Jayci) Lorissa (Darren), Kris (Linda), Rebecca (Greg), Halley, Chris, Jamie (Kyra), Lance, Alex, Annalise (Nano), Hunter, Kaitlyn (Julian), Mathew and Emily; Great Grandmother to, Mitchel, Adair, Hamiley, Reese, Cael, Kimball, Sebastian, Morgan, Ellison, Tessa, Pepper, Ivan, Elise, Beckett, Foster, Ayla, Kassandra, Khianna, Kynsley, Alyssa, Kash, Devon, Rory, Wesson and Luca. Louann was predeceased by her daughter Karen and granddaughter Halley on February 16th, 1989. She was also predeceased by the love of her life Garnet Asplund October 18th, 2000. She often spoke of meeting Garnet at the age of 12 and loved to talk about the fun they had dating one another, before being married November 15th, 1952. Louann and Garnet were raised in the Taber and Barnwell areas, where they attended school and graduated from Taber High School. Garnet began working for Chevron standard and the couple moved to Princess, AB in 1958. Working at the gas plant in a small community of close knit friends, they enjoyed raising their young family and were immersed in life on the prairies. When Chevron opened a new office they moved back to Brooks, where they have remained. Louann was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher, Young Women’s Leader, and working in various capacities within the Relief Society. Louann loved flowers and had at least one hundred varieties of both annual and perennial flowers in her beds. There were plenty of envious onlookers passing her glorious gardens in full bloom. She was an accomplished seamstress. Louann had a special passion for knitting, embroidery and crocheting, making her own children and grandchildren hand knit, sweaters, scarves and hats, and wall hangings. Louann was an avid reader and passed her love of reading and seeking knowledge to all her family. She was able to travel to Mexico, Hawaii and Cuba enjoying time with her sister and close friends. Louann will be remembered for her loving dedication to her family, her practical and honest approach to life, and mostly her quick wit and ability to enjoy a good laugh. Funeral services to be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brooks on Saturday June 18th at 2:00 PM. Bishop Greg Graham officiating. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
