Linda Louise Dowd (nee Herries)
July 30, 1949 – June 20, 2022
Linda passed away peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Monday, June 20, 2022. She is survived by her daughters Shannon and Erin; son-in-law Kevin; grandson Michael; siblings Joseph and Marie; sister-in-law Marilyn; nephews Scott, Matthew and Michael; great-nephews Kain, Jaxson, Keegan, Liam, Connor and Lochlan, and many other family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents Gerry and Patricia, her nephew Chad and niece Kelly. Linda lived a remarkable life full of love, laughter, creativity, and service to others. She was proud to be a Registered Nurse and graduate of the Mac School of Nursing in St. Catharines, Ontario (class of 1969). During her career, she worked in surgery, psychiatry, public health, and as a school nurse before opening her own health and wellness business, “Healing Arts,” which she operated for many years. She was a certified reflexologist, Reiki master and energy worker who trained extensively in Eastern healing modalities. She was also a professional
watercolourist, calligrapher, songwriter, guitarist and published poet. Those who were fortunate enough to meet her will know she was every bit of a people magnet. She exuded a kind of light that is hard to describe. It was not uncommon for passersby to hug or talk to Linda, feeling compelled to touch her hand or smile at her when she crossed their path. People felt a genuine comfort sharing with her their hopes and fears and life stories, even during short encounters, like in the ladies’ room at the movie theatre or in the grocery store checkout line.
Linda was a natural-born healer and communicator who could make a connection with anyone. Those who knew Linda best will remember all these wonderful things about her, but especially her personal strength. When faced with challenges, she was a gentle warrior who showed unending perseverance. She had an eternal optimism that was contagious, and an ability to push through the darkness to find joy in the smallest things in life. She was appreciative of every day she had here on Earth. Those who knew her best will remember her spirit of generosity and her deep love for family and God. They will remember her vast intelligence, quick wit, and wicked sense of humour; her love of eggplant, and lilacs, Candy Crush and Tetley
tea; her cute pigtails, affinity for neck pillows, and shiny pink lipstick. Most importantly, however, they will remember a person who made them feel cherished, worthy, and safe. She was a hero and mentor to many and will forever be missed.
Rest in heavenly peace, dear mama. You will always be our ‘Earth Angel.’
The family will be having a celebration of life for close family and friends on Linda’s birthday,
July 30th, at the family home.
