It is with great sadness that we announce that Leon John Deveau of Souris passed away peacefully at home on October 02, 2022 at the age of 59. Beloved son of the late Margaret Ruth (nee Cheverie) and Richard Louis Deveau. Loving brother of Shirley (John) Bork, Nancy (Eddie) White, Dianne (Ron) Duncan, Richard (Gini), Kevin, Brian (Pam), Renee (Scott) Diehl, Eldon, Roger (Shirley), Darrin and Wanda (Dean) Carlson. Leon was predeceased by his brother Glenn and nephew Clint Davies.
Leon held a special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews; Jason and Brian Bork, Cheryl MacSwain, Randy and Johnny White, Lauren Heal, Lindsey Rosche, Casey and Dustin Deveau, Nicole Barkhouse, Julie Doyle and Ashley Deveau, Glenn and Kaden Diehl, Sarah MacNeill and Amber Phipps. They truly loved his deep and loving hugs.
Leon had a large extended family and will be missed dearly by his friends at MacIntyre House and Harbourview Training Centre. Through the many messages of interactions with Leon he was instrumental in defining the paths of many careers of workers who had the privilege of working with him. He was a very social fellow, loved to dance, play air guitar, tell stories, one-liners, give out hugs, play video games, listen to music, give out weather reports and ham it up for the camera. He loved his outings for treats, and it was amazing to watch as he knew so many people from the Souris area who always stopped to say hello, it truly takes a village! The family would like to pass on a special thank you to Billy Gallant and Judy Hennessey, staff and directors of both MacIntyre House and Harbourview Training Centre for their dedication to their profession. Leon was the recipient of your love and guidance for many years and words cannot express our appreciation. Leon was also a long-time participant in Special Olympics, sometimes not willingly, but he truly enjoyed the interaction with his friends.
Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 5-8pm. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, October 7 at 11:00am with interment to follow in the church cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Leon can be made to The MacIntyre House, Harbourview Training Centre or the Special Olympic PEI.
