Campbell, Joan Marie (nee Blance) 1944 – 2022
On Monday, November 28, 2022, in her 79th year. Joan passed away from complications due to Covid.
She leaves behind many family and friends whom she touched over the years with bigger than life personality and wonderful sense of humour, despite her small size.
Joan grew up in Port Robinson in a house full of love. Predeceased by her husband Garth (1985), father Robert, mother Elinore (nee Wharam), brother, Jack, and sisters Helen and Mary. Survived by sisters Carol, Linda, Kathy and Judy.
For the last 20 years she has lived with her sister Linda. Together they were referred by the family as “The grandma’s”. They were two peas in a pod and partners in crime.
Joan found her first job as a stenographer in the court system, eventually finding her way to the Niagara Rehab Centre where she worked as a bookkeeper and then the Executive Secretary to the Director, until her retirement.
Over the years she has been involved with line dancing, euchre team, lawn bowling and much more. She was always up for a themed party and was a master of costumes.
Joan will be greatly missed by her extended family group in Fort Myers, Florida. She would create a good time no matter where she went.
Never one to be idle, she was always doing something for someone. Joan was always baking pies, making jams and deserts that would then be sent home to the kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and neighbours.
Joan leaves behind two children, Robert Melville (Wendy) and Leanne Rodgers (Steve). She was Grandma to Brogan, Fallon, Elizabeth (Samuel) and Ryan (Brandon). Most recently, she became a Great-Grandmother to Valerie, who she was able to spend quality time with, just days prior.
The family would like to thank the ICU Team at the Welland General Hospital, with special thanks to Allison.
The memorial service to honour Joan’s life will take place on Saturday, December 10th at St. David’s Anglican Church, 369 Thorold Road, Welland. Service starts at 11:00 am with fellowship and refreshments in the church hall. The family and those that wish to join will gather for an interment at Doan’s Ridge Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association of Canada.
