M. Jean McLay passed away at Lincourt Manor, St Stephen, NB
on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
Jean was born in St Stephen NB. in 1934, daughter of the late
Kenneth McLay and Marian MacGillivray. In addition to her
parents Jean was predeceased by her daughter Barbara Beck, brothers
Bob McLay, Billy McLay and sister Margaret McKeen.
The eldest of five children she lived her early years in St
Andrews, NB. After graduating from high school in St. Andrews, Jean
moved to St Stephen, married and raised her family. She was
employed at various jobs including being a telephone operator for the
New Brunswick Telephone Company. In her later years Jean completed the
Human Services Course at New Brunswick Community College in St Andrews
and was employed at the Fundy Regional Transition House in St Stephen
until her retirement.
Jean maintained a strong religious faith and was a member of
the New Life Christian Assembly in Old Ridge. She was a
member of the St Stephen Chapter # 8 Order of Eastern Star. Jean
cherished her time with friends and family.
Jean is survived by her daughter Linda Betts (Gary) Bible
Hill, NS, son John Beck (Bonnie) St Stephen, NB, sister Norma Feeney
(Donald), Fall River, NS. She was affectionately called Ga
by her grandchildren John Betts, Ryan Betts (Vanessa), Patrick Beck
(Samantha), Bryce Beck, great grandchildren Sawyer and Remy Betts.
Jean will also be missed by members of the McLay and Beck
families.
A celebration
of her life will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home
Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. on Saturday, September 10,
2022 at 1 PM.
