Obituary
Minnie « Irene » Paulsen
Irene lived the first 22 years of her life on the family farm east of Ponoka. She married Frank Paulsen in 1947, moving to Vancouver Island to start her life as a Navy wife. They had 2 children during the 15 years in Esquimalt, moving to Saskatoon Air Force Base for a 2 year deployment after that. The marriage dissolved leading Irene to bring her kids back to the family farm.
Irene worked in housekeeping at Alberta Hospital Ponoka, retiring to care for her mother, and lived in her own home and drove her own car until she the age of 95. She was a very independent person and enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, and travelling. There’s no way to capture Irene’s true spirit and character in words, but she made lasting impressions on everyone who crossed paths with her. Her smile and laughter will always be remembered.
Irene was predeceased by both parents, James and Florence Scott, her only sibling Ernest Scott, and is survived by son Wayne (Wendy) Paulsen, granddaughter Michelle (Darcy) Shewchuk and great-grandchildren Nicole (Kean), Blair, Darin (Monique), and Ryan; and daughter Brenda (Bryan) Gallaugher, granddaughter Jennifer (Neil), and great-grandson Derian, grandson Michael, and grandson Allen (Jennifer) and great-grandsons Harrison and Cameron; as well as many cousins and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
