George Arthur Joseph Massicotte

In loving memory of George Massicotte, 83 years, who passed away peacefully at Health Sciences North on December 15, 2022, surrounded by the love of his family.
Loving husband to his wife Suzanne and father to cherished daughters Nicki-Lynn (Rich), Jodi-Anne (Louis) and Michelle (Joey). He leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Katie, Evan, Erica, Ryan, Cameron and Chloe, all of whom were his greatest pride and joy. George was happiest when his family (his precious cargo) was gathered and when kisses and hugs were plentiful. George is survived by his much-loved sister Jeannette (Rolf) and his brother Denis (Laura) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Celina and Real, and brother Roger.
Hailing from Val Marie, Saskatchewan, he was affectionately known as Cowboy George as everyone who knew him could tell you about his lifelong passion for Quarter horses. He realized his dream of owning his very own hobby farm in 1985 and Nijomi Quarter Horses was established. Breeding, raising, showing horses with the hopes of creating a champion was the goal. In 1989, Nijomi Sonny Reb was born. This stallion ultimately went on to become a two-time, reining world champion with Dad recognized as his breeder. Never was he prouder of an accomplishment.
He had a long and successful career with Revenue Canada, where he was a well-respected and admired colleague and manager to hundreds of employees.
He was the king of the Prime Rib roast which was always the main event at all family celebrations. He also grew a great garden with more tomatoes than we could possibly eat and some of the largest zucchini that ever existed. In his earlier years, he and mom loved to curl. Dad was the skip, Mom the lead. He was always an avid reader, passionate about knowledge, and was extremely well versed in history, politics and current events. He had amassed an impressive collection of classic model cars over the years, and he eventually treated himself to his very own life-sized Lincoln Town car. Self-proclaimed trivia aficionado, Dad could often be found beating his buddies at trivia challenges over a couple of beers at the local watering hole.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff in the Whitson wing of St Gabriel’s Villa in Chelmsford and to the nursing and support staff, 4th floor South, Health Sciences North, for their phenomenal care and compassion. George always said: “You gotta be tough if you wanna be a cowboy” – and that he was.
Friends may gather at the Lougheed Funeral Home, Hanmer/Capreol Chapel, 4605 Michelle Drive, Hanmer after 12 noon Saturday, January 7th, 2023. Funeral prayers will be held in the chapel at 2pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Salvation Army.
