Anne Antcliffe (nee Alexson)
Feb. 3, 1923 – Jan. 19, 2022
Anne was raised on the family farm near Quill Lake, Saskatchewan, where her parents settled
down after emigrating from Ukraine. She grew up in a close-knit family of 9 children where she
learned the value of hard work, resilience, confidence, and frugality.
Anne leaves behind her son Allan (Margot McCurry), grandchildren Erin (Benjamin Best) and
Blair (Siobhan), and great-grandchildren Emilia and Kye Best, all of whom she loved dearly.
Numerous nieces and nephews have happy memories of spending time with Auntie Anne.
Fiercely independent her whole life, she made her own decisions, always. Adventures in travel
and life lured her away from the prairies, from her first foray during WWII to work at a
munitions factory in Toronto, to attending school in British Columbia, to teaching in
Saskatchewan, Vernon and North York. Some of her favourite vacations were to Hawaii and
Arizona, and she treasured the photos and memories from those trips long after they were over.
Anne retained her formidable intelligence and dry sense of humour right to the end. She readily
shared opinions about current affairs, knew the details in the lives of her many nieces and
nephews, and could not be beaten at cribbage. A voracious reader, it was difficult to keep up
with Anne’s required library books. She was a skilled craftsperson, especially in knitting and
crocheting. After she retired, she continued to teach by sharing her skills with seniors. Well into
her nineties, she raised money for local charities by creating pom-poms to sell at her residence
in Brantford.
Anne was close to her siblings and enjoyed travelling with them and get-togethers as often as
possible. Predeceased siblings are Mary, Polly, Ella, John, Stella, Alex. Remaining to remember
her fondly are Molly Alexson and Jenny Londry.
