Aiden Piper was born on June 1, 2006 with a rare condition called nemaline myopathy. He was our champ, our fighter, our miracle and our sunshine. Despite his many obstacles, surgeries and limitations, he always had a smile. He would give you an extra chuckle if he set off one of his machines and made you panic! After many hard fought years, his body could not fight anymore. Surrounded by family, we sadly and lovingly said good-bye to Aiden on February 16, 2022.
In his final resting place, Aiden will be greeted by his dad Zunga (Rex) Bashir, his great-grandmother Juliette Piper (nee St. Germain), his great-grandfather Ramadan Bashir and his god-father Blair St.Germain. Aiden will be forever remembered by his grandma Cathy Piper, his mom Tamara Piper, his siblings Hayze and Aniya, his grandmother Anoria Kaka, along with his great aunts and great uncles, his aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, nurses, doctors, teachers, caregivers, friends and the many other lives he touched with his spirit to persevere.
The family wants to thank all of those that assisted in Aiden’s care throughout the years starting with the St. Boniface Hospital where he was born. For the last fifteen years – many thanks to the Childrens’ Hospital for the medical care, love and support that Aiden received from the nurses, doctors, respiratory technicians, dieticians, and caregivers. Thank you to PSCU and PICU for the times when Aiden needed extra medical attention. We also want to thank Make a Wish Foundation, the Rehabilitation Centre, the St. Amant Centre (Spirit Cottage) for the great holidays, Bernie Wolfe School for his friends, and the Pediatric Pallative Care personnel for their kindness on Aiden’s final journey. For those wanting to make donations in honor of Aiden, please feel free to make it to any of the organizations listed above.
A celebration of Aiden’s life will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 10:30 am at Coutu Funeral Home located at 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to invite only. For those that are not able to attend, you may attend virtually by way of Zoom.
