Obituary of Yvonne Ford
(nee Talma)
Yvonne passed away peacefully on March 11, 2021 at The Village at University Gates LTC, after an extended illness. Lovingly remembered, she is survived by her children Chris (Daryl Enstone), JoAnne, and Sandra Ford; sister-in-law Patricia Brunel; and her much loved nieces and nephews Kevin, Brian and Gayle Talma of Barbados; their children; and her niece Shirley Monteil. Predeceased by her husband of 53 years James, sister Dorothy Talma-Monteil, brother Trevor Talma, and parents Evelyn and Herbert Talma.
Yvonne was born in Barbados and came to Canada to study nutritional science, receiving a BSc at Acadia University and later an MSc at the University of Guelph. She remained in Canada, married, and worked as a dietician for several years. Her focus quickly shifted to her growing family and they remained her focus throughout her life. She loved music and line dancing, and even puttered around at golf.
In her last years, she faced the many challenges due to her health with a quiet determination and continued to be there for her children. The family is grateful for the continuing support of Dr. Douglas Findlay and the team at New Vision Family Health in Kitchener. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to her vascular surgeon, Dr. Srinidhi Jayaram, for helping us navigate this difficult road in Yvonne’s journey and for giving her extra time with us.
The family would especially like to thank the team members at The Village at University Gates (Downey Neighbourhood) for the attentive care they provided to Yvonne in her short time with them. The team went beyond all expectations to provide a safe and loving environment for her and helped to ease our worries at a very difficult time.
Due to the pandemic, no service is planned at this time. Cremation will take place on March 16, 2021. Interment and a celebration of life service will be held in Barbados at a future date.
