Yvette’s Obituary
It is with tears & sadness we announce the passing of our deeply loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Yvette at the age of 93, on December 25, 2020. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Jean-Paul and daughters Ghislaine (Mike) Cashaback, Lucille (Lyall) Pratt, Rita, Julie (Lindsey) Juniper, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, 2 sons-in-law, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Yvette was predeceased by her husband Albert after 54 years of marriage, 2 infant sons, daughters Marie-Jeanne (Tokarz) and Fernande (Larose).
Yvette was the second youngest and last surviving of 7 siblings born to Frank and Elise Aubin on the family farm south of Falher where she grew up and finished school. In that era, the Aubin clan was big on music and Yvette carried her love for it throughout her life. As an adult, her shyness evaporated in musical soirées with extended family where she would belt out songs and duets with her Albert. Yvette took violin lessons while living at the convent. She aspired to become a professional musician, that is, until she was introduced to her future husband in her final year of high school. Yvette and Albert married in the Fall of 1945 and the children came along soon after.
Yvette was dedicated above all else, to her family. The singular most important thing to her was her children’s education. She was an excellent seamstress and spent many hours bent over the sewing machine making and mending clothes for her children. Hand me downs were resized and repurposed. She made gourmands of her family with flaky pies, feuillantines, Asian fare, tourtières, and steak sauce, her specialty. There was also time for joining a choir, playing violin, reading, and tatting.
As the children grew older, she found employment as a cashier at Robinson’s followed by sorting mail at the Post Office. After Yvette obtained a bookkeeping certificate she was employed for several years in that capacity with Beaver Lumber and she donated her time as treasurer of her parish. She grew bored after retirement and briefly took up part time work at the Villa Beauséjour.
As a widow, she moved to St Albert to be near family. Later years saw Yvette navigating dementia and in 2015 she moved to Shepherd’s Care in Edmonton. The family is sincerely grateful to the Vanguard staff who have looked after her with care and compassion the past 5 years.
Loyalty, integrity, and kindness were Yvette’s guiding principles. She leaves us with memories of her gentleness and loving heart.
Cremation has taken place. A private family funeral will be held at Paroisse Ste-Anne in Falher.
