Wilma Joan Chute
September 21, 1942 – August 24, 2021

Wilma Joan Chute (nee Halliday) Age 78 of Hillsburn N.S., born on September 21st, 1942 passed away peaceful August 24th, 2021 in Dartmouth, N.S. She will be sadly missed by many loving family and friends.
Born in Annapolis she was the daughter of Morland & Lydia ( nee Milbury) Halliday of Hillsburn N.S. Wilma was predeceased by her parents and many of her siblings as well as her loving life partner Henry Amirault (Weymouth, N.S).
She is survived by her 5 sons; Troy, Tracey (Beverley), Ross (Karen), Tony and Ritchie (Laura) Chute. Her two brothers Alton (Thelsa) Halliday and Kenneth (Faye) Halliday.
Wilma was a proud, supportive, loving and kind grandmother. Known as “Nanny” to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wilma was known for her quick-wit and kind heart. She was a mother to many over her life. A life long homemaker who was great at listening over a cup of tea or eager to offer advice to help find a solution to any dilemma. Her house had an open door policy for family or friends and anyone was always welcome to come and stay as long as they needed. Many took her up on that offer over the years and found much comfort within the walls of her home.
Wilma’s friendly nature tended to create unique bonds, many lifelong, with people that extended beyond immediate family.
There were many who looked up to her like a mother figure like her granddaughter’s Erin and Melissa, her dearest friend Judy with whom she had a very special mother-daughter bond. She even considered Judy’s son’s Nathon & Brandon to be part of her extended family and treated them just like the rest of the grandkids.
Wilma will be sorely missed by many friends and family who all have loving, funny memories of her. Most of them involved a game of cards, cup of tea, social events at her home, or a quick witted remark she always seemed to have at the perfect time. Often combining all of those things at once.
Wilma and Lee’s house was always full of people stopping by for a visit, game of cards or even a meal. You could always count on a hot, home cooked meal come supper time. The policy being; the more, the merrier. Everyone was welcome.
They were notorious for spoiling their grandkids and always “losing” a card game for a few bucks to one of the kids. Wilma was often known to slip a $5 bill into one of the kids hands when the ice cream truck could be heard nearby, always accompanied with a wink & mischievous grin while saying something like “shhhh! You didn’t see anything” She was always coming up with a nickname for someone and had a special way of making each and everyone feel they had a special bond and place in her heart.
It is with truly heavy hearts we announce her passing, she will be deeply missed by so many.
A special mention on behalf of the family is extended to several women who went above and beyond for caring for her in these final months; Beverly, Erin, Jade, Laura and Melissa. We thank you and are grateful for the time, dedication and love shown to her in her final days. She was very blessed to have you all in her life and the family is very thankful to each of you for all you have done.
Also to her youngest Son Ritchie for the love and care you have provided to her which allowed her to stay in her home, where she wanted to be, for as long as she could.
“Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.”
Immortality- Clare Harner
