Obituary
William “Bill” Reiter
February 22, 1940 – July 7, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father William Walter
“Bill” Reiter, at the age of 81 on July 7th, 2021 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Bill was an extraordinary
husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, son, brother and friend. Bill was born in Kerrobert,
SK and grew up with 5 brothers on the family farm near Luseland, SK. He attended the School of
Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. His world changed at a country dance when he met
Lorraine, the love of his life, and they were married on July 10, 1962. In 1964 Bill and Lorraine moved to
Saskatoon and built their forever home. Bill was a very active member of his church since 1965, serving
as acolyte, Knight of Columbus member and supported other church groups like RCIA, and Marriage
encounter; there really wasn’t a job Dad didn’t do when asked. Bill worked as a lab tech for Agriculture
Canada for 33 years before retiring in 1994. Dad had a desire to experience new places, he was always
willing to share stories from his travels to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, Greece, Turkey, Scotland,
Mexico, and Medjugorje. He chose to drive across Canada and the United States twice because he loved
discovering neat little places not always found on a map. Bill really enjoyed sports, both watching and
playing them. He didn’t stop water skiing, curling, camping and playing baseball till well into his 70’s. Dad
was well known for his teasing mannerisms and quick-wit one-liners. He was hard working and was
always ready to lend a hand to others. Dad worked side by side with Mom in everything they did which is
why their home and yard was a hub for laughter, love, and activities for their family and many friends.
Bill’s humble trust in God was shown in his gentleness and deep love for his family; everyone he knew
was family to him. His love for his family was only surpassed by his faith in his Lord Jesus Christ. He
faced every day with a prayer and a rosary in his pocket. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Lorraine,
his daughters Doreen (Rick) Myrfield, Karen (Robert) Syrenne, Melinda (Tim) Franklin, 12 grandchildren,
and four great grandchildren, brother Ben (Janice) Reiter, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is
predeceased by parents Walter and Elizabeth Reiter, brothers Steve, Mike, Valentine, sister-in-laws,
Catherine, Agatha, Angela, Beatrice and Anne, in-laws Marcus and Gertrude Fischer and grand-daughter
Renee . Memorial Donations may be directed to Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan (1405 Faulkner Cres, Saskatoon, SK S7L 3R5).
