William Marvin «Bill» Jay
1930-2021
With sadness we announce the passing of William Jay on
Monday, December 13th at The Mount Community
Care Home. Left to fondly remember a long, well-lived life
are his wife of sixty-nine years Eleanor Marie (nee Walsh), children
Lorna (Blythe Murray), Michael (Debby Stead), Debra (Bill Wellner),
Bill (Maria MacDonald) and Grant (Joanne) as well as seven
grandchildren of whom he was immensely proud – Nicole and
Kiel Vessey and Liam, Isaac, Kerry, Jaylene and Cody Jay .
Predeceased by his parents William Willard (Pops)
Jay and Annie Regina (nee Grant) and his sister
Madeline.
Commitment to family, community and career defined his
life. He was a member of the steering committee which led to
the establishment of St. Pius X Church. Throughout his life
he volunteered countless hours to various community and professional
organizations. For many years he served as Chairman of both
the Summerside School Board and the Prince County Catholic Family
Services Bureau. Other volunteer work included service to
Holy Redeemer Church and the Belvedere Golf Club. He
received numerous national and international citations and awards in
his chosen profession of credit and finance.
Despite being born on the cusp of the Great Depression, Dad
maintained he and his sister suffered little as Pops was gainfully
employed throughout as a train conductor and thus able to provide for
the family. He claims to have seen much of PEI as a young
boy on junkets he would take with his father as goods and passengers
were transported tip-to-tip.
Later in life he discovered and was smitten with the game of
golf and for much of his last 40 years could be found with good
friends on the fairways at Belvedere (where he scored an impressive
five holes-in-one).
A sincere «thank you» to all the staff at the
Carriage House who took such special care of Dad during these
difficult past several weeks.
Remains entrusted to the Hennessey Cutcliffe Funeral Home for
cremation followed by a private family funeral. No
