Obituary
William Griffith Morrow passed away at Bobby’s Hospice on Saturday, February 20, 2021, with his loving wife, Barbara, at his side.
Born in Thunder Bay (formerly Port Arthur) Ontario on May 8th, 1936, to the late Albert and Pearl (Goodfellow) Morrow, Bill and his two identical siblings were the very first set of triplets born in Port Arthur. Raised with 5 siblings on a farm in Murillo, ON, his early education was in a one room schoolhouse where his mother was the teacher.
Bill’s work with Canada Steam Ship Lines brought him to Saint John every winter where he met Barbara McGowan in 1957. They married in 1962, and Bill relocated permanently from Ontario to Saint John to raise a family with Barbara. He began working at Irving Oil in 1965 where he was an Accounting Supervisor for over 30 years, retiring in 1997. Family was always Bill’s priority, he spent the next 20 years happily traveling with Barbara to spend time with his siblings, children and grandchildren. A particular thrill was walking halfway down into the Grand Canyon with his twin brother, Bob.
Bill was a devoted husband, engaged father, loving grandfather, and always supportive brother, uncle and friend. He was a man of strong opinions and had a fierce work ethic, traits he passed on to all three of his children. Bill was an active sportsman, playing baseball and hockey and coaching both at the minor level, loved camping and fishing, and was an avid golfer and curler for decades atThistle Saint Andrews and Riverside Country Club. He could fix anything, was interested in most everything, and never turned away anyone who needed help. A member of Saint Joachim & Ann’s Parish, Bill was a principled, good man and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara; sons George of Quispamsis and John of Philadelphia; daughter Sue-Anne (James Bracchitta) of New York; precious grandchildren Brandy & Ben Morrow and Griffith & Rowan Bracchitta; brothers George Morrow (Lorraine), identical twin brother Robert Morrow (Beverly), and younger brother Terrence Morrow (Valerie); brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Donald McGowan, Theresa Keenan (Duncan), and Claire McGowan; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by one of his triplet brothers in infancy; brother Dale Morrow; and sister Joan Romano.
Bill’s family gratefully acknowledges the dedicated care provided by the doctors, nurses and staff of Extramural and Bobby’s Hospice. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
