Wilhelmina Ojeda Zilles (1940 – 2021)
Wilhelmina passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the early morning hours of Monday, February 22, 2021 at Innisfree House in Kitchener, Ontario. There are no words to describe this amazing woman who has left us too soon. Cherished wife of 60 years to George Zilles; beloved mother to Robert and Doris; the best mother-in-law imaginable to Loa Zilles (Moore) and Ultan Campbell; and the most adored ‘Lita’ to her grandchildren: Joshua and Owen Zilles here in Canada and Cathal, Shane and Megan Campbell of Meath, Ireland.
Having her grand-kids around her, were her happiest and proudest moments.
‘Willie’ loved cooking for her family. She made the best and most authentic guacamole, peccadillo and salsa. For a Mexican, her cabbage rolls were legendary. Wilhelmina also loved to travel, escaping winters with George to return to her native country of Mexico, interspersed with regular overseas trips to Ireland to spend equal time with her beloved Irish grandchildren. Her loving maternal presence will be sorely missed by us all.
She was our sunshine and our rock.
Originally trained as a seamstress, one of her proudest moments was qualifying as a Nurse’s Aid when she worked at Sunbeam Residential Home.
We want to express our gratefulness to all those frontline workers at Grand River Hospital that cared for Wilhelmina with compassion in the midst of a pandemic, from her admittance to the Emergency Ward, then to the ICU followed by the Stroke Ward. Finally, a special note of appreciation to all the staff, nurses and doctors at Innisfree House for their amazing palliative care. Words cannot begin to express our gratitude for your patience, kindness and guidance during this difficult time for us.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations to Innisfree House or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
