TARBET, George Wilfrid
Wilf passed away in his 96th year at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus on Monday April 19, 2021, following a brief illness. Pre-deceased by his wife Mary (neé Marsh) and his sister Audrey (Colin Duckworth). Survived by his son Robin (Lisa Cornfield), grandson Grant, his brother Donald, and numerous nieces and cousins. Born in Jarrow, England in 1925, Wilfrid served for 3 years with the Royal Navy and five more years with the RNVR before coming to North America in pursuit of higher education. After obtaining his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Delaware, he moved north to Toronto to work for Dunlop Canada. Subsequent jobs took him to Polysar (Sarnia) and Health Canada (Ottawa). Retirement took him back to Sarnia where he was an avid gardener (who loved Irises) and amateur musician playing the ukulele and African drums. In later years, he particularly enjoyed playing card games with his grandson. A celebration of life will be held in the future; details to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Shepherds of Good Hope (Ottawa) or the Inn of the Good Shepherd (Sarnia) would be appreciated.
