Reddick, Wilfred, 75,
of Antigonish,
It is with grateful hearts to have known
‘Wilf’ a truly devoted husband, father,
grandfather, and a friend to many. It is with saddened
hearts to announce his peaceful passing at home with his family by his
side, on December 23, 2021
Born in Glace Bay Nova Scotia, He was the son of the late,
Sophie Victoria Elms (Ash) and Joseph Bishop. He married the love of
his life Lorraine (Daye) in 1968. They moved from Upper Big Tracadie
and built their home in Antigonish in 1971, where they resided and
raised a family for 53 years. Wilfred was member of the Tracadie
United Baptist Church and the A.U.B.A Laymen’s
Men’s Brother Hood. Wilfred was a hardworking and caring
family man. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, spending time
outdoors, camping, fishing, and driving in his truck. He was a very
dependable father who had an exceptional talent for fixing all things
that needed to be fixed. Wilf loved country music with George Jones
being his favorite artist. In 1968, he graduated from the Nova Scotia
Institute of Technology (NSIT) in Halifax, NS with a diploma in
Automotive Technician. He began his apprenticeship working at Keltic
Motors in Antigonish and went on to work at Citadel Motors in Halifax,
he then worked for Bob MacKeigan Toyota in Port Hawkesbury and several
other dealerships in Antigonish. Wilfred later started his own small
business «Wilf Reddick Lite Hauling, Lawn Care & Snow
Removal «with his wife by his side. He was a well known smart
and friendly businessman and will be missed by countless community
members.
He was a loving husband to his wife Lorraine; and a caring
father to, Irving (Lise), Saskatoon; Trevor (Theresa), Antigonish;
Syna (Cedric Smiley), Antigonish; Tara; Antigonish. Brothers Lawrence
«Larry» (Beverly), Kenneth; Thomas
«Tom» (Barb), all of Montreal; and sisters, Sonja
(Alonzo), Lincolnville; Anna Lee Johnson (Gerry), Manitoba; chosen
sisters, Lillian Desmond, Upper Big Tracadie; Diane Izzard, New
Glasgow; Linda Izzard, Halifax; he is also survived by many nieces and
nephews.
Wilfred was affectionately known as
«Granddaddy» to his 16 grandchildren and three
great- grandchildren. He held a special place in his heart for his
first grandchild, Samantha, whom he and his wife raised. Samantha was
a dedicated caregiver in his final months. Wilfred also cherished the
bond with his grandson Kwame who worked alongside him from a young
age.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sisters;
Esther, Shian, brothers; Joseph, James, Clarence, Charles, and Ambrose
in infancy; foster parents Charles and Hattie Ashe; mother-in-law,
Dorothy Daye; chosen sister Norma Ashe, chosen brother Brian Daye and
granddaughter Téa Maria Lorraine.
In Memoriam, donations may be made to Tracadie United Baptist
Church Men’s Brotherhood.
A private family visitation will be held in C.L. Curry
Funeral Home with a private family Funeral Service on Thursday at
Tracadie United Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Emmanuel Mutale and
assisted by Deacon Alonzo Reddick. Please note that both the
visitation and Funeral Service are by invitation only. Burial at a
later date in Sunnyview Cemetery. Covid protocols will be followed and
those attending must provide proof of vaccination and photo ID.
Funeral Service will be recorded and available on the funeral home
website on Friday.
The Reddick family extends a special thank you to the
oncology and palliative care staff at St. Martha’s Hospital,
V.O.N, Dr. Emily Rice and Dr. Ron McCormick for their care and
compassion.
Daddy, you truly left a
legacy ‘Love and Respect ‘A life well lived, is a
life well treasured.
