How do you say goodbye to a larger than life man who was loved by so many? On Palm Sunday, in his 94th year, our Bob passed from this life to his eternal life with Jesus Christ. Bob was alternately known as Dad, Grandpa, Kipper Bob, Scooter Bob, or Uncle Bobby. Bob shared two great loves – his wife of 32 years, Flomayne Eileen and his sailboat “Beachcomber.” He dearly loved his children Keith and wife Joanne, Mark and his wife Laura, Wendy and her fried Rob, and step-son Joseph and his wife Ariane. Robert was blessed with 8 grandsons and 3 great-grandchildren and was so proud of them. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Watson. Bob’s working life spanned 51 years as a WWII Canadian Army veteran, a detective with the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force, a proprietor of a Country Style Donut franchise, and as a Field Services Officer guarding money for the Bank of Montreal.
During those years he taught gun handling and sailing to local teenagers, was a scuba diving instructor, an “artiste” with stone (cement was his medium!) a gardener who loved his flowers, a fearless cruising sailor, a skilled woodsman, who ramped with his family, and a “so-so” fisherman. He was a spell-binding raconteur who would have his audience in gales of laughter.
Deer hunting was a yearly ritual. For he and 40 Novembers, his hunting buddies, the Flying W’s, Fred Wretham, Tom Wharton and Dave Walkeden, talked deer by day and played hotly contested games of cribbage by night. Later in life he spent many seasons hunting with his son Keith and TT!. Bob had a warm and tender heart juxtaposed with the mental and physical toughness needed in his police work.
He highly valued honesty and integrity. He was the heart of our family and will be forever missed and loved.
A Service of Committal, by invitation due to Covid 19, will be held on Saturday April 3, 2021 at Queensville Cemetery. If so desired, donation may be made to the Ontario Crippled Children’s Centre, Rumsey Road, Toronto, or to the Alzheimer Society.
