Velma Ethel
Irene Keyes – 84, Truro, formerly of Lantz, passed
away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Wynn Park Villa, Truro.
Born in Lantz, she was the daughter of John Francis «Frank»
and Margaret (Isenor) Keyes, and was raised on the family farm.
Velma was
employed in the mailroom at Sears Canada in Halifax for 35 years
before retiring December 31, 1991; she moved to Truro in June, 2015.
Along with her
parents, Velma was predeceased by her sister, June Murray.
She is
survived by her nephews, Paul (Jane) Murray and John (Susan) Murray,
and their children, Christopher, Jeffrey, Melissa and Peter.
Velma had a
love for animals and her passion was for puzzles and she was happiest
when trying to put a puzzle together, spending entire days doing this
activity. Velma’s family extends its sincere gratitude to
the staff at Wynn Park Villa for their loving care and compassion.
There will be
a family graveside service at Elmsdale Cemetery in the spring with
Reverend Norman Pearce officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in
Velma’s memory may be made to Colchester East Hants Health
Centre Foundation, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of
your choice.
Arrangements
have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young
