It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Veldman at the CHSLD Denis-Benjamin Viger on October 3, 2021.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Mathilda Wynacker Veldman and their children Terry (Theresa), Wendy (David), Jodie and Peter (Lori). His dear grandchildren Judy (Travis), Kaitlin (Raffi), Alison (Colin), Misty (Michael), David (Emiliee), Asheley, Kory (Ashley). His loving great-grandchildren Julianne, Caroline, Nathalie, Jaden, Shane, Leo, Logan, Owen, Jacob, Candace, Laura, Kayla, Shyla, (the late Thalia) and Ryan David.
Born on October 23, 1932 in the small town of Dronrijp, The Netherlands to Martha and Jan, Peter was the youngest amongst his siblings Herre, Agnes, twins Jaap & Hendrick, Siene and Ploon. He was the last of the surviving children, having departed this world just hours after his sister Siene.
Peter and Mathilda were married in June 1957 and they moved to Canada to start the adventure of their lives. With bravery, they arrived on their own having had many early challenges to overcome. They went on to get a home to raise their family and enjoyed many summer camping trips, fun splashing in lakes, winters of tobogganing, cross-country skiing and skating together.
Peter was known to be a skilled Mr Fixit employing his abundant determination and perseverance to complete any task. He was an avid talker with any passerby and loved to dance. He adored his beloved cat, Snow. Peter and Mathilda had a successful life together being able to enjoy a retirement in the country in Renfrew, Ontario and many winters in the sun of Florida.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. Luke Parish, 106A Avenue Anselme Lavigne, Dollard des Ormeaux, Qc H9A 1N8 on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. The funeral mass will follow. The family would like to thank the CHSLD Denis-Benjamin Viger 2nd floor personnel for their skilled and compassionate care. Your kindness will always be remembered.
Donations in his memory to the Montreal Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers.
