Suzanne Marie Elliott
July 11, 1931- September 11, 2021
Suzanne Elliott passed away suddenly in Tillsonburg, Ontario, on September 11, 2021, at the age of 90 years. Suzanne was born on July 11, 1931 in St. Jean-de-Matha, Quebec, to the late Alice Desroches and Henri Gagnon. Beloved wife of Dr. Harvey Elliott, Suzanne loved taking care of her home and her family. She was an incredible woman who soldiered on through many challenges, from learning English to living all over Eastern Canada as an Air Force wife and raising five children. She was an avid cook whose dinners regaled many over the years. Suzanne passed her cooking and baking skills on to her children, and thus to her children’s children. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, and her property was always a wonderful sight to see. Suzanne was also a French teacher in her adult life, teaching her siblings at school in Quebec when she was a young teacher, and later teaching at the school her children attended in Belleville, Ontario. She was also a fantastic seamstress, using this skill to clothe her family stylishly and beautify her home; this was another skill she passed on to her family. Suzanne enjoyed boating and fishing on the Georgian Bay with her husband, Harvey, and loved to play duplicate bridge. She liked to have a fresh-cooked lobster even just earlier this year as a special meal! Although standing a diminutive 5’0″ tall, Suzanne was a force to be reckoned with: outworking the younger generation in the garden, speaking her mind about politics and the wrongs she saw around her, and keeping both a tip-top home and cooking meals from scratch that would please her beloved Harvey. Together they were an inspiration to us all: that love could be found a second time in life, and two very different families be brought together 36 years ago. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Suzanne is survived by her children Jean Doucet (Lisa), François Doucet, Sylvie Doucet (Paul Warner), Allan Elliott, Carole Doucet Love (Chris Love), Johanne Doucet (Maurice Oishi), and Stephen Elliott (Tess); grandchildren Elayna Gallea (Aaron), Maggie Doucet, Lily Doucet (John Eugenio), Kaley Ward (Steve) and Devon Warner (Karen), Emma Love (Kolin Hansen), Becka Love (Christian Eggenberger), Mackinley Love, Andrew Elliott, Mikaela Elliott (Jalen Sabean), Hillary Elliott, Yoshio Doucet, Seiji Doucet, Alexander Elliott, William Elliott, Jonathan Elliott, Emily Elliott; and great-grandchildren Abigail Warner, Britanny and Jack. Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Denise (late Alban Houle) and Lucie (late Severin Doucet), and her late husband Oscar Doucet. She is also survived by siblings Marcel (Joyce Ethier), Victor (Lise Lafontaine), Jeannine (late Robert Adam), Normand (Lucille Sylvestre), Ginette (late Gilles Gauvin), and Paulette (late Real Poudrette). A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg. Memorial donations to the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg would be appreciated by the Elliott family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ostrander Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221).
