It is with great sadness that the family of Stephen Vater announce his passing at his home in Benoit’s Cove peacefully on July 13, 2021 at the age of 89. He leaves to mourn his wife Shirley of 64 years; sons Randy (Dale), Robert (Janet), Darren, Darryl and Stephen Jr.; daughters Maxine (Donnie), Greta and Rosemary (Tim); grandchildren Shane, Geniene (Stephen), Derrick (Rebecca), Ashley, Bradley, Stephanie (Michael) and Brooke; great-Grandchildren Riley, Amber, Alyssa, Kaitlyn and Kellan, sister Mecerdes (Clarence) Sheppard; as well as a large circle of nieces , nephews, extended family and friends. Stephen was predeceased by his parents William John and Tryphena Vater (nee Hickey); Brothers Joseph Vater (Lillian), Patrick Vater (Joanne) and James Vaters, sisters Teresa Pennell (Lindburgh) and Rose Barnes (nee Vater); Brother in -law Inos Barnes, niece Bertha (Kerm) Gallant. In keeping with Stephen’s wishes a funeral of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in Benoit’s Cove on Saturday July 17th 2021 at 2:00 pm with Fr. Ed Terry officiating. Interment to follow at Our Lady Star of the Sea Cemetery. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, to a maximum of 25 people at one time. Mask and physical distancing required.
