Peacefully, at Renfrew Victoria Hospital after a sudden illness, surrounded by the love of her family, on Friday, October 22nd, 2021, Shirley departed this life in her 78th year.
Shirley (McLachlin) Emon, wife of the late Earl Emon and much loved mother of the late Donald Emon, left her five children to grieve: Peter (Alanna), Gordon (Tina), Jean Riopelle (Garneth), Brenda Kalledat, and Mary Emon-McAuliff (Mike). Lovingly remembered and sadly mourned by her partner Eric who brought her much happiness. She was fortunate to have loved and been loved by two of the finest men from Calabogie.
Predeceased by her parents Isobel and Peter McLachlin and her sisters Margaret Smith and Janet McNulty, brothers Ross and Glenn McLachlin. Shirley is survived by sister Ruth Easton (JR) and her brother Kenneth McLachlin (June).
Adored Gramma to Lily; Amanda, Danielle and Brandon; Vicki, Amanda and Nicole; Tanya and Joseph; Kirsten, Ocean and Hannah; Drew, Ryan, Mathew and Jessica. Special Great Gramma to Alexander and Larkin; Zoe, Briarlyn, Trey and Azlynne; Chelsea and Jacob; Johnathan and Nathalie; Jacob; Peyton, Logan, Oliver and Charlotte; Jaxon. Dear Aunt Shirley to many nieces and nephews.
Together with Eric, Shirley enjoyed many special occasions and holidays with Matthew (Lynn) and Philip (Julie) Emon; and Michelle (Andre) Beauchamp and grandchildren Micheala, Sierra, Liam, Connor and Kayleigh; Riley and Colby; Emma Rose and Robert.
Shirley was born on June 28, 1943 and raised on a farm in Burnstown, Ontario. She saw fast paced changes over the course of her life, but what remained constant was her love for and her pride in her family and her unwavering support for them. She modeled how to balance working hard with enjoying life. Shirley revelled in chatting, laughing and playing cards with her family at the many large, boisterous family dinners and extended family events.
As a long time member of the Women’s Institute, she felt great satisfaction working with the women in her community. Shirley, a widow with six children at the age of 38, worked for many years at the Calabogie Lodge, unselfishly sacrificing for and supporting her children as they went to school, married, started families and entered their careers. She also enjoyed her annual birthday lunches with her sisters and nieces.
The family is so grateful for the excellent care Shirley received from the Doctors and Nursing Staff on the second floor of Renfrew Victoria Hospital.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 2- 4 and 7 – 9pm. A graveside service will be held Monday afternoon in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Calabogie at 2pm.
