Shirley Bernice Smith
Passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on July 16, 2021 in Barrie, Ontario. Predeceased by her loving husband, Ernie Smith and cherished sister, Bonnie Lillico.
Devoted mother of Gerald (Colleen) and Brian (Debra). Loving grandmother of Ryan (Emma), Heather (Dave), Colin (Sara), and Ian, and great-grandmother of Bianca, Isaac, Nyla, and Penelope.
Shirley and Ernie built their own house on vacant farmland in Sarnia where they raised their family and she developed a life-long interest in gardening. Later, she enjoyed a career at Eaton’s in Ottawa for many years before moving to Oakville, where she retired and took on a volunteer role at the hospital. She loved to tackle a challenging crossword puzzle and was a keen fan of Jeopardy. Tennis was her favourite sport, and she continued to play into her eighties. The family cottage near Tobermory was a special place to spend time with her grandchildren and explore nature.
The family would like to acknowledge the dedication of Amica Little Lake staff in caring for Shirley during her time there. If desired, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated. Family will celebrate her life in private following cremation.
