Obituary For Sebastian Harry Gregory Heemskerk
Sebastian Harry Gregory Heemskerk, of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, in Grande Prairie at the age of 22 years.
He was born December 18, 1998 in Vernon, BC, where he lived before moving to Northern Alberta 2009.
Sebastian was a delightful child and introspective young man who touched the lives of many people. He loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time hunting, fishing, and generally exploring with his dad. He also loved discussing history, current events, and anything interesting he could find out about the world with his mom. Those outside the family remember his special soul, kindness, cheekiness, kind eyes, sweet soul, beautiful smile, along with many other precious memories.
When Sebastian was a little boy he asked to be baptized, stating that he wanted to be part of God’s family and that he wanted Jesus to take all of his naughtiness away. Through more trials and tribulations than one of his years should have experienced, he always came back to this belief and we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now with Jesus face to face, never again to suffer from sickness, worry or confusion. While our hearts break for missing him we rest in the knowledge that we will see him again.
Sebastian will be sadly missed by his dad Tim, his mother Carmen (Pete), his big sister Avalon, his little sister Kalista and step brother Cameron. Mourning with them are his grandparents Harry and Terry, Greg and Angela, and great-grandparents Irvin and Loni, along with numerous aunts, uncles, step-siblings, cousins, nieces, and friends.
Due to public health restrictions the following will be by invitation only:
A Vigil will be held on Wednesday June 9, 2021 beginning at 4:00 pm onward (family friends and distant relatives are welcome to call or video call anytime that evening).
A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday June 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grande Prairie AB (please see public link below to join us virtually)
Internment with an outdoor service will take place on Saturday June 12, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Coldstream Municipal Cemetery, BC.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Lawrence Centre in Grande Prairie (saintlawrencecentre.ca).
