Rose Walz was born on September 22, 1933 to Nicholas Walz and Katherine Senger. Rose was raised with her 2 sisters and 12 brothers on the family farm at Cosine Saskatchewan. The Walz family was defined by their German colony roots, their prairie farm, and their deep Christian faith.
Rose Ternes met Ben Ternes when her brother was courting and eventually married Ben’s sister. Ben and Rose married in 1954 and moved to Superb, Saskatchewan. While living in Superb, Allen was born in 1956 and Lorne was born in 1958. Eventually the little family moved to a small farm house overlooking Buffalo Coulee on the NE 10 -33-24-West of the 3rd Meridian. While at the family farm, Janice was born (1960), and was followed by Terry (1964).
As the family grew up and left the nest, Terry and Janice to Ontario, Lorne to Alberta and Allen to Saskatoon, the pace of farm life slowed down. Their children’s families grew and Rose and Ben cherished their role as grandparents. In the 1990s, Rose and Ben became residents of the town of Kerrobert which they definitely enjoyed.
On March 07, 2008, our mother’s love and partner Ben, passed away in Kerrobert surrounded by the family he loved. Rose lived alone in her Kerrobert home until eventually moving to the Hillside Lodge then the Pioneer Haven and eventually the Long Term Care Unit within the Kerrobert Hospital. At each of these residences she was surrounded by caring staff, kind and generous neighbours and friends.
Rose passed away on February 13, 2021 at St Paul Hospital in Saskatoon, and was predeceased by her husband Ben. She is survived by a) Allen and Penny Ternes – Clayton and Tosha Fidyk and children, Richard and Shyanne Hornseth and children, b) Lorne and Nicole Ternes – Nicholas, Benjamin, Graham, Jonathan c) Janice and Jim Senger – Ashley and Michael Kneeshaw (and children), Brett and Brannon, and d) Terry and Lison Ternes – Chelsey Roy.
