Obituary of Robina Grigg
“Ascended” by faith in Jesus Christ, Robina Shannon Ballantyne Grigg entered into eternal life on Saturday June 12, 2021 in Barrie, Ontario.
She was the forever sweetheart of Morley Grigg (predeceased March 2021), the loving mother of Don and Jane, son-in-law Ian Morrison, and grandmother of Greg, Neil & Holly, Kent, and Beth. She is already missed and dearly remembered by sisters Isabel Cherry, Damaris Barnett & Ron, and Vicki Grigg as well as the extended circle of family and friends.
She was the oldest daughter of Andrew and Sarah Ballantyne. She often reminded sisters Isabel, Virginia, Damaris and Agnes that she was the only one to be born in bonnie Scotland. With five beautiful teenage girls their household became quite the hive of activity. Ruby learned very early in life to take responsibility and to organize. Forced to leave school after grade 9 to help care for the family due to her Mother’s health. She never lost her desire to study and learn. She appreciated the opportunity to go back to school in her forties to earn an RNA and then ultimately to care for her Dad as he lived out his last days.
One of the gifts her Dad gave the family was a love of music, which she in turn passed to her family and then to many piano students in Lively, and Owen Sound. She was a diligent teacher and student of teaching. While her students may not have liked doing their scales they certainly knew their teacher cared – and made great cookies. Celebrating her students’ progress in annual Recitals was a highlight for her.
Visiting at the Grigg home always included a warm welcome, a big hug, time around the table and the signing of the guest book. If her journals are not sufficient history of hospitality, her guest books record visitors from around the world, friends, family, missionaries and friends they hadn’t made yet. Ruby became a prolific writer, whose letters encouraged so many in their times of sorrow and celebration.
Ruby was the treasured wife of Morley Grigg for nearly 74 years. She first caught his eye when she walked past the window of the research were working for INCO in Copper Cliff. They married on June 21, 1947 and lived in Lively until 1987 when they moved to Owen Sound to be “Grands” and “Greats”! They were a great couple and truly complemented each other’s personality. They loved doing life together, whether it was leading a Seniors Service, teaching Sunday School, travelling from sea to sea, singing the old hymns or simply holding hands. Morley’s passing in March was an insurmountable loss to Ruby.
A Graveside Service is to be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in Greenwood Cemetery Owen Sound. Covid Protocol must be observed within the Cemetery.
Donations to Love Owen Sound/Alliance or Redwood Park Communities would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home.
