Robert Sisson – After a long rich life filled with family, friends, love and laughter, and of course music, Robert Sisson passed away on September 10, 2021. Robert, at the age of 107 was the oldest living man in Ontario and tied for 4th oldest in Canada.
Robert is survived by his wife of 75 years, Marion (Wilcox). Mom and Dad were inseparable in their retirement years, often seen holding hands and always looking out for each other. A true love story enduring over the years.
Four daughters kept Robert busy – Heather (Doug Hammill), Judy (George Davidson), Laurie (Al Matisse) and Shelley (Martin Hillebrand). He was a proud Papa and great Grampa to Richard, Ethan and Victoria Hammill, Kristie (JR) Douglas and Nicholas Purdy, Ashley and Matthew Davidson, Lauren, Michelle and Ryan Jilesen, Brigitte and Rebecka Hillebrand. Family gatherings were noisy and happy affairs. Robert lived most of his life in Bethany, first living on his parents’ farm and then his own farm on highway 7A west of the village.
He finished his work life with the Ontario Government as a Dairy Herd Improvement Inspector. Anyone who knew Robert knew music made his life complete. He played piano from an early age – playing by ear as well and played the organ at St. Mary’s Lifford. As a young man he played the alto saxophone with Jack Galloway’s band at many dance halls in the area. When he retired to Lindsay in 1989, he helped form the Kawartha Male Chorus and retired as a lifetime member in his 100’s. For many years he entertained residents of local long term care homes, tickling the ivories with the Tunes of the Past. Robert spent his last years at Kawartha Lakes Extendicare with Marion, receiving exceptional care.
A private family funeral will take place Friday, September 17th followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lifford. Donations in Robert’s name may be made to St. Mary’s Chapel, Lifford.
