CARROLL
April 22, 1929 – April 4, 2021
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Robert Michael (“Bob”) Carroll announces his peaceful passing on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 at the age of 91, at Hogarth Riverview Manor, in the loving arms of his family.
He is survived by his wife Helen (married 67 years); son, Danny (Laura) Carroll of Winnipeg, and their children Lindsay (Nathan Rochford), Hilary and Dora Carroll (Ryan Connor); daughter Norine Carroll and her children Daniel and Kathleen Johansen; daughter Alison Carroll (Paul Maydo) and her children Mackinley, Abbey and Sophie Steinhoff; and siblings Theresa Stolz of Thunder Bay; and Patricia Austin (George Newton) of Winnipeg.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Herb & Mabel Carroll, and parents-in-law, Eddie & Kate Ouellette; his daughter, Mary Lenore; his siblings and their spouses, Thelma (Fritz) Begin; Ab (Edna); Helen (Roger) Rickards; infant Joseph; Monsignor Reginald Carroll; Mev (Evangeline); Patrick (Mary); Herb (Anne); Norma (Ed) Risi; Jack (Madeline); Lorne; infant Francis; Peter (Rae); Tony Stolz, Sr.; John Austin.
Bob was born into a family of 16 children. The nine Carroll brothers formed a baseball team that earned the city league title over three seasons. He has dozens and dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, inlaws (“outlaws”) that will lovingly remember Uncle Bob (“Uncle Nut”) for his exuberance and antics at family gatherings. He treasured each one of them, dearly.
He and Helen made the Westfort community on East Mary Street their home until December 2019. He loved golfing and curling, and also enjoyed the socializing aspect of these activities. Bob will be remembered by his family and friends for his gentle soul, quick wit, authentic smile and charismatic personality. You couldn’t help but smile when he was around.
Bob worked in sales for many years, and at the Lower Deck Lounge of the Royal Edward Hotel, but it was when he became head custodian at St. Martin School for 26 years, (where he was affectionately known as “Uncle Bob”), that he developed treasured relationships with staff, administration, and especially the students.
Bob took great pleasure in giving back to the community. He was a dedicated volunteer with the Knights of Columbus Council 1447, and the Father Baxter Assembly of the Fourth Degree; St. Patrick’s Cathedral Marriage Preparation Program Leader; Regional Cancer Centre, driving patients to and from their treatments; Grandview Lodge, calling monthly Bingo; altar-serving and lectoring Masses and Funerals at St. Elizabeth and St. Anne FWFN parishes.
Sandy Beach, Chippewa always held a special place in Bob’s heart. For decades, he enjoyed spending time at camp with family and friends, entertaining, playing cribbage and horseshoes, and barbequing for anyone who stopped to visit.
Family and faith were foremost in Bob’s life and he never missed an opportunity to share his love, even with small gestures like making his famous grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. He always prepared the bacon and eggs on Sunday after Mass, and his baked beans were legendary! Bob, your shining spirit will remain in our hearts always. “Luv ya!”

Stilla, V.G. for your steadfast spiritual support and your long-time friendship; to staff at Leila Greco and Hogarth Riverview Manor during his final months.
Cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will be held at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be postponed until a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
