Obituary of Richard Vinal Sabin
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Richard Sabin, husband of the late Nina Sabin, on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born May 25, 1952, in Saint John, he was a son of the late Eleanor (McGough) and Vinal Sabin.
Richard graduated from Millidgeville North High School and began a career with Sears Canada, retiring after 41 years. He enjoyed being in nature, volunteering with Scouts and the YMCA in his younger years. He was interested in local history and could often be found taking part in David Goss’s Walk n’ Talks. Richard enjoyed socializing and always seemed to find friends wherever he went. Always a great storyteller, Rick loved reminiscing about trips to Carleton County, vacations to Toronto and Oregon, and everyday adventures. Rick was always quick to laugh and bring laughter to others. Even after retirement, he didn’t stray far from retail, continuing to work in merchandising part-time. Richard was a devoted member of Carleton-Kirk United Church, serving on a variety of committees, and was a Lay Preacher with the United Church of Canada, which he took great pride in.
Richard is survived by his son, Andrew (Tiffany); daughter, Lynn Gotell (Cory); grandson, Connor Sabin; brother, Paul (Harvey Hamburg) of Toronto; sisters-in-law: Alice Sabin of Oregon and her son, Glen Sabin, and Skana Gee of Halifax and her children, Griffin and Tova.
Besides his parents and his wife, Nina, Richard was predeceased by his brother, Ted.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Visiting will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, from 2 to 6 pm. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 10 am from Brenan’s Chapel.
