Rich grew up in Stirchley, Birmingham, U.K. He was quite the athlete, enjoying swimming, soccer and the family favourite…cricket.
In 1967, Rich and his first wife Jude set sail for Toronto, Canada, having already secured employment as a junior electrical engineer with Atomic Energy of Canada. He went on to work for Cole Sherman and finished out his career with Dow Chemical.
It was when he moved to Sarnia that he met the love of his life, Dianne (Carole Dianne Conway) and they were married on December 21, 1990.
Rich was a loving husband, father, stepfather and grandfather. He had a keen sense of humour and was hard-working and creative. His need for adventure led to extensive travel. He loved music and playing his uke, banjo and guitar. He also appreciated his garden where, after working the BBQ, he and Dianne would sit in the gazebo he built and enjoy a glass of his homemade wine.
Richard is preceded in death by his beloved Dianne, having died a month previously, his eldest brother, Mike Dolby of Solihull, UK, and his mother and father (Constance Godwin and Leslie Dolby).
Rich leaves behind his two daughters, Tara (Mike) Campbell of Victoria, BC; Brooke (Jeff) McMillan of Fredericton, NB, brother Barry (Jenny) now residing in Spain; sister-in-law, Margaret of the UK and his grandchildren Isidora, Lucian (Campbell) and, Shea, Vale and Tate (McMillan). Also surviving are Dianne’s children Marie (Tony) Caudill, Lynda (Matt) Cunningham and Jamie (Leslie) Farrar, and their children Bradley and Kyle Caudill, Paige and Grant Cunningham, and Ethan, Jack and Gavin Farrar.
His positive energy and enthusiasm will be missed by everyone, but will stay alive in our hearts and memories. In accordance with his wishes there will be no funeral service and in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
