Reginald «Reggie»‘s Obituary
MUISE, Reginald “Reggie” John – age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 4, 2021in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. He was born January 13, 1942, in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Reggie was predeceased by his father and mother, John “Bie” Leo Muise and Lenore E. Deveau, brother Ronald Leo (Carolyn) Muise and nephew Scott McIvor. Reg is survived by three sisters, Betty (Don) McIvor, Joyce Doucette and Dorothy (Ernest) Hatfield. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews. Reggie survived a car accident in 1959 which left him a quadriplegic. He competed in Wheelchair Games at national and international levels from 1969 to 1977 winning over 40 medals, including 25 gold medals. He set four Canadian throwing records (discus, shotput, javelin and club throw) and one world record (shotput). He was inducted to the Nova Scotia Hall of Fame in 1989 and was later inducted to the Yarmouth Sports Hall of Fame. He attended Dalhousie University in 1971 and 1972 but left to purchase his own business, a corner grocery store which was later named ‘Reg’s Quick Mart’. In spite of his dependency on his wheelchair, Reg will be remembered as a positive person with a great sense of humour. Many people in the community not only shopped in his store but would also drop in just to visit and talk with Reg. Reg loved watching sports on TV. He was an avid card player and, in his retirement, spent many hours honing his skills. Reggie will be greatly missed by his family and countless friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A graveside committal will be held at a later date for the family. There will be no funeral service as per Reggie’s wishes.
