It is with broken hearts and tear-filled eyes that we announce the passing of Rachel South (nee Simms) mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. Rachel was born January 16, 1943 in St. Anns, Watt Town, Jamaica and went to rest with her Heavenly Father on September 19, 2021.
She leaves behind her children Leroy Clarke (Alvetha), Marva South, Orane South (Jossette) Carmen Hockmuller (Mark), Michelle South, Janet South and Clevelet South. She was a loving grandmother to 21 grandchildren and a great grandmother to 8, as well as numerous nieces, grand nieces, nephews and grand nephews. She is also survived by her sisters, Merkle, Blossom, Hyacinth and brothers Stanley and Clevie. Rachel was the 4th of 11 children and was predeceased and will be greeted in eternal rest by her father, Nathan Simms and her mother Ida Simms as well as her sisters, Cherry and Dorothy; brothers Harry, Asley and Derby.
Rachel loved taking walks, taking care of her garden, and cooking for her family. She attended Eastside City Church faithfully. She loved to travel and took many wonderful trips to places like Israel, Florida and other places throughout Canada and Jamaica. She will be forever remembered and greatly missed in our hearts. Rest peacefully until we meet again. We love you Mama.
Those wishing to pay their respects may join the family at Pierson’s Funeral Home (4121-17th Ave S.E, Calgary, A.B) on Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 10:00am-2:00pm. Due to the COVID Restrictions the service will be limited to invite only which begins at 2:00pm with Pastor Sam Cadiz officiating. Those wishing to watch the service from the comfort of their home may do so via this link here. Due to the city by-law all those attending in person must provide either proof of vaccination, or proof of a privately-paid negative rapid test result taken within 72 hours of service, or documentation of a medical exemption. Masks are also mandatory.
Those wishing to do a gesture in honor of Rachel may do so by sending flowers or monetary donations to the family.
