Queenie’s Obituary
ACKER, Queenie V. of Churchover Shelburne County/Dartmouth. We are saddened to announce the passing of Queenie on Wednesday September 22nd 2021 at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Her 87 years began in Roseway on May 1st 1934 where she was the oldest of 4 children born to the late Howard and Annie (Armitage) Myers. Fond memories will remain with her brothers James (Doreen) Myers of Cow Bay NS, Willard Myers of Riverview NB and Owen (Sandy) Myers of Ingomar NS., her surviving children Dorothy (Lorne) Swift of Fall River NS and Brian Acker of Barrys Bay ON, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great- great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles Acker and her children Sandra Dewolfe, Helen Briand and Alden Acker.
At a young age Queenie and Charles moved to Dartmouth to raise a family and pursue careers. As well as being Mom to 5 children, Queenie spent more than 25 years working in various departments within the federal government, last stop BIO. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Dartmouth where she was organist for many years.
In 1987 Queenie and Charles retired “back home” to the Acker family homestead in Churchover. Queenie was involved in many community volunteer activities. She was an active member and organist at Church of the Resurrection in Churchover and she was a leader in forming the RRRA group. She passed time enjoying music, line dancing, social get togethers with friends, playing cards, doing needlepoint and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
While keeping busy in Churchover, Queenie and Charles found time to enjoy several cross Canada road trips, a Rocky Mountaineer train trip and several cruises.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home Shelburne, from where a visitation will take place on Friday October 1st at 1:00 pm with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm with Reverend Doug Chard officiating. For those unable to attend the service it will be recorded and posted to the obituary following the service. Interment will follow at the Church of the Resurrection cemetery in Churchover. Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers you can donate to a Charity of Choice or do a good deed for someone in her memory. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.huskilson.net
