Paul Ernest Devlin
September 16, 1946 – March 7, 2021
It is with broken hearts that we say good-bye to Paul Ernest Devlin who passed away on March 7, 2021 with his loving family by his side.
Paul’s family came first. He lovingly raised his daughters, Renee and Courtenay. He coached and mentored them in sports, school and life itself, fought for their rights, guided them through difficult times and always made sure they were safe and loved. His love for them was strong and sure.
As much as he loved his daughters, he totally idolized his grandchildren, Darian, Kaylin, Jordana, Bailie and Anthony. He spent countless hours playing games with them, taking them to several countries, cheering them on in sports, boating with them and encouraging them to follow their dreams and live life to the fullest.
Paul’s unconditional love for his wife, Marnie, shone through as he fully supported her love for family, friends, hiking in the mountains, travel and lifelong learning. He was her best friend, better than anyone could ever ask for.
Paul had so many friends, from far and wide, and all walks of life. Curling was his passion. Under his astute leadership, he competed in the Briar twice and won the Canadian +55 Senior Games gold medal. He was a fierce yet respectful competitor. As the years passed, Paul’s curling community grew so that hundreds of curlers from all over the US and Canada proudly called him their friend. He also loved golfing and spent time challenging his buddies on the course and afterwards, laughing in the bar. Sports comes with stories and Paul was the best. His animated tales brought smiles to faces and giggles into hearts.
The world was at Paul’s feet as he travelled to many parts of the world. Riding elephants in Africa, hiking in Nepal, exploring parts of South America and climbing the Great Wall of China were just a few of his adventures. But, he was happiest at Kootenay Lake with his beloved dog, Stanley, watching the eagles soar above.
Paul lived a full and happy life. He was humble and proud and loved by so many.
He is predeceased by his parents Roland and Elizabeth and survived by his wife, Marnie, daughters; Renee (Chris) Cacchioni, Courtenay (Kyle) Jones, grandchildren; Darian, Kaylin, Jordana, Bailie and Anthony, his brother Derek (Bev) Devlin and sister Rolanda Barrett, nieces Kim, Amy and nephews Kevin and Michael.
A family service will be held on March 20, 2021 with Reverend Ken Siemens officiating. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
Our thanks go to the intensive care units at the Trail Regional Hospital and Kelowna General Hospital. And, our heartfelt appreciation is sent to the huge numbers of people who have reached out with love and support during this very sad journey.
