Owen’s Obituary
MERIGOMISH – The family of Owen James Fraser, 20, Merigomish, are heartbroken to announce his sudden passing Friday, February 5, 2021 as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
Born in New Glasgow on July 7, 2000, he is the son of John William Lyons and Lucinda “Cindy” Gail Fraser, Merigomish, and younger brother to Cory and Bailey Fraser. Owen graduated from North Nova Education Centre in New Glasgow in 2018. He then studied Business Administration at the Nova Scotia Community College Pictou and Truro campuses, graduating from the program in 2020. He had been employed with A & W Antigonish for the past three years and thoroughly enjoyed his job, his co-workers, his customers, and his “best boss man”.
Owen was a brilliant young man, and extraordinary in every way that matters. If you knew him, you loved him. He threw his heart and soul into everything he ever did. He loved sports and was a beloved team member in hockey (a proud Thorburn Goldenhawk), and soccer, and did judo with his mother and brothers. He loved spending time with his friends and made everyone he met (and all their pets) feel welcomed and appreciated. He had an incredible wit, and the ability to find the humour in every situation. He loved trying new things and viewed the world with a curiosity and intelligence that made him a fascinating person to be around. Owen was kind to everyone and appreciated and accepted every person he met exactly as they are. He never judged, criticized, or focused on anything negative, and found the joy in the world exactly as it is. Above all, Owen loved his family.
Surviving besides his parents, John and Cindy are brothers, Cory (Candle Kozak), Ottawa, Ont.; Bailey, Merigomish; maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Ann (Bradshaw) Northen, Judique; maternal aunt, Liz (Blaise) Cameron, Port Hawkesbury; paternal aunts, Laura (Charles) Roy, Saskatoon, Sask.; Cathy Turcotte, Cape Sable Island; Eleanor Fraser, Halifax; Elizabeth Spears, Truro; cousins Caitlin (John Angus MacDonald) Cameron and their children, John Cameron; Avery, and baby MacDonald arriving any day; Jessica (Brandon) Myalls and their children, Charli and Blake; Jason (Carla) Roy and their children, Sarah and James; Scott (Kim) Roy and Mary Fraser; best friends, Dhruv Amin and Jakob MacKay.
He was predeceased by his brother, Tristan William Fraser in infancy; paternal grandparents, Jimmy and Jean Fraser; uncle, David Turcotte.
If desired, memorial donations may be made in Owen’s memory to the Barney’s River District Fire Department or Merigomish and District Volunteer Fire Department.
Owen’s family hope that others are inspired by his kind-heartedness and consider performing an unexpected act of kindness in his memory. They wish that he will be remembered often, his contagious smile never fading.
