Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Norma passed peacefully on April 26th, 2021 at Royal Jubilee Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She will be missed greatly by her loving husband Paul, son Jason (Susan), daughter Gina, and grandchildren Sydney, Kalen & Zachary. Sister-in-law Elaine Chan (Norman, predeceased in 2017) niece Nora (Peter), nephews Colin (Norma), Nelson (Sophia). Survived by her sisters Joan Ng in Toronto, Sandra Oxley in Kelowna, and her brother Robert Kong in Toronto. Norma also has various families in Canada, the USA and Hong Kong, Australia, Fiji & Europe. Norma has a large extended family and she would always look forward to the Kong Family Reunions. She worked for the Government of British Columbia for many years in various departments, including the Ministry of Mines & Resources. After retirement, Norma volunteered at the BC Government House Gardening Club, Canadian Cancer Society, and the BC Cancer Clinic at Royal Jubilee Hospital. Norma loved to cook, work in her garden, and enjoyed music by Barbra Streisand & Celine Dion. Her leisure activities included playing mahjong with her many friends and spending time with her grandchildren, who loved Grandma very much. Once a month luncheons with the ladies was another favorite pastime. A strong believer in her faith, she attended Saint Patrick’s Parish in Oak Bay regularly. A special thank you goes to the nurses & staff of 8 North at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their heartfelt care with Norma in her last days.
A private service was held Thursday, April 29, 2021 by her loving family. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of British Columbia is greatly appreciated:
