Noreen Ryan Tuesday April 20th 2021

NOREEN MARY RYAN
Noreen Mary Ryan passed away on April 20, 2021 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 74.
Noreen “Nori” Ryan was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia on December 4, 1946 and spent her childhood on Mabou Ridge, Nova Scotia at her family’s dairy farm. She moved to Montréal once she had finished school and met and married Harvey Marc Bourgeois.
Nori was happily employed by the Provincial Government of Manitoba in both Justice and Health departments for more than 25 years. While working and raising two sons she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from the University of Manitoba. Nori and her second husband, Andrew Leochko, took the opportunity to manage a Manitoba Hydro project for three years in Nigeria doing important and meaningful work, and making connections with people and families from around the world. Nigeria gave Nori and Andy the opportunity to travel extensively, and they visited 26 countries, including Scotland and Ireland where she was able to embrace and reconnect with her Celtic roots. Nori was an avid baker and cook who delighted in hosting large dinner parties and making her signature dishes, particularly tourtière and countless dainties. Nori deeply loved children and it was her grandchildren for whom she was especially devoted.
She loved to golf with her husband and spent cherished hours making dear friends and enjoying fresh air and exercise.
Nori was predeceased by her parents Alphonsus and Sadie (Macleod) Ryan and siblings Bernard, Lagouri, and Jerome Ryan.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Andrew Leochko, sons Derek (Zara), Kevyn (Teri), and stepchildren Mark (Lisa), and Lisa. Also mourning her loss are her siblings Gertrude Sanford, Helen Surette, Sarah Murphy, James Ryan, Jack Ryan, Bryden Ryan, Mary Elizabeth Nahirney, Archibald Joseph Ryan, along with many cousins, nephews, and nieces. She delighted in being called “Grammy” and will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Sophie, Kalina, Finn, Ava, Ella, Piper, Madden, Sawyer, Erik, Zachary, and Scarlett.
A private service will be held for her in June, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Noreen’s memory to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.
YOU NEVER SAID GOODBYE
Author Unknown
You never said I’m leaving
You never said goodbye.
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knew why.
A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill.
It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone
For part of me went with you,
The day God took you home.
