NEIL CRAIGIE
April 14 1949 – April 19 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Neil Trussler Craigie, taken from his beloved family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Neil was born and raised in Richvale, Ontario and later moved with family to an acreage just south of Aurora, Ontario. The experience of being raised on an acreage, with a very outdoorsy Scottish father, instilled in Neil a deep love of nature and solitude. His family always had pets around including a baby raccoon, garter snakes, a snapping turtle, along with the usual cats and dogs. He developed a strong work ethic in his youth by working as a weekend & summer gardener from the age of 12-18 at Don Head Farms. During these early years, he developed an inborn adeptness in creating, building, and repairing anything with almost nothing to work with. He was masterfully skilled with his hands and so knowledgeable in all things practical.
After graduating from high school, Neil worked briefly with CN Rail in Maple, Ontario and then moved on to work with Canada Post; with over 34 years of dedicated service, mostly as a letter carrier. In the mid-1970s, along with his best friend, he discovered the quiet beauty and ruggedness of Saskatchewan and from that moment on never left.
Neil had a wry sense of humour, an interesting point of view on varied topics and was a great story teller. Most of all Neil loved nature & enjoyed retreating to the country. He worked so hard to build and create a wonderful and comfortable home away from home. He made it lovely for his young family & later, his loving companion, Lyn.
Neil will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind his loving companion Lyn Fleming; daughter Kristen (Kelly) Craigie and grandson Noah Singer; son Ry (Janene and daughter Caydence) and grandson Alex Craigie of Calgary; sister Cynthia (Ted) Smith of Guelph, ON; brother Alan (Wendy) Craigie of Shining Tree, ON; former spouse Margaret Craigie and numerous friends and extended family. Neil was predeceased by his parents James and Irene (nee Hopkins) Craigie.
