In Memory of Nadean Wiebe
Nadean Wiebe (nee Peters), beloved wife of the late Wesley Wiebe, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor, passed away on June 27, 2021 at the Coaldale Health Centre at the age of 71, after a short battle with cancer.
Nadean is survived by her son Ryan (Wanda) Wiebe, daughter Rynel and son-in-law Stu Wickend, and grandchildren Jaston and Kealani Wickend. Nadean was predeceased by her husband Wes, parents John and Litvena Peters, and brothers Mike and Bernny Peters.
Nadean is lovingly remembered by her brother Dan (Pat) Peters, sister Elaine (Norris) Burnstad, sister-in-law Joan (Mike deceased) Peters, and sister-in-law Sybil (Bernny deceased) Peters. She is also remembered by her in-laws Vernon (Sharon) Wiebe, Tex (Louise) Wiebe, John (Pat) Wiebe, Richard Wiebe, Charlotte Wiebe and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nadean had a love for her family that was fierce and tender and for those that knew Mom, you know this is the truth. She created a loving home to grow up in and made us feel special and loved every day. She was the ultimate care-giver, taking care of Wes when he was battling cancer, taking care of Ryan throughout his long battle and recovery from encephalitis, taking care of her Mom through the years and after her stroke. Mom’s care giving also extended into her employment at Rehoboth where she met her client Henry who she cared for as if he was part of her family. Mom also had a huge heart for her fur babies and spoiled every dog she ever owned. Spud, JubeJube, Wee-Gee, Maya and Kweeney were the luckiest little furballs to have her as their “mom”.
Nadean was a very trendy lady who had a unique sense of style from a very young age. She was employed as a window dresser at many stores over the years, some including Sweet Sixteen, D’Allairds and Penningtons. In her late teens and early twenties she travelled to Calgary, Medicine Hat, Red Deer and other Alberta locations to teach and train other fashionistas about the now lost art of window decorating. She had a real flair for fashion. Mom always liked to look her best and made a statement everywhere she went. Even when Mom was struggling with her health and needed me to take her to a doctor’s appointment, I was still put on hold while she “painted” on her eyebrows. She loved clothes, accessories, shoes and long painted fingernails. This passion for fashion is a trait that she definitely shared with her granddaughter Kealani. Recently Kealani got a nose piercing and joined her Grandma and Mom in accessorizing their cute noses.
Besides family and fashion Mom also had a love for garaging (attending garage sales). It was the excitement to see what treasures she could find and of course to see what kind of a deal she could get. This hobby of hers contributed to her passion for fashion and she had more clothes, shoes and accessories than she could ever wear or use.
Nadean enjoyed travelling and many memories were made on family trips. Growing up we got to spend time at Mike and Joan’s in Chilliwack, swimming in their pool, sun-tanning in their yard and seeing the sights around British Columbia. Many long weekends were spent in Camrose with Elaine, Norris, Lana and Todd. Shopping was always on the itinerary. A couple of family trips to Oregon to visit Bernny and Sybil allowed for more swimming, boating, sun-tanning and adventures. The odd night on a weekend was spent at Dan and Pat’s, melting stresses away in their hot tub. There were also camping trips to Tex’s cabin, softball tournaments in Great Falls and of course the most magical family vacation to Disneyland and San Diego. After Ryan and Rynel moved out, mom and dad bought a motorhome and enjoyed camping with friends at Castle Falls, Beauvais Lake and Honeymoon Creek. Even while camping Mom always looked amazing and stylish. Another life trip for mom and dad was to Mazatlan, Mexico to vacation with Tex and Louise. After Dad passed away in 2004, Mom continued to travel when she could. She travelled up the east coast from Florida to Prince Edward Island. She “wintered” in Barra de Navidad, Mexico for several years where she made new friends, bought more shoes and got some pretty cool tattoos. The climate in Mexico was perfect for Mom as she loved to tan and have that golden tint. Ryan even joined her there for a few winters as the warm climate suited his healing well. For Mom’s 60th birthday, Rynel took her to Las Vegas. One of the highlights of the trip was seeing Cher in concert. Mom was in awe with Cher’s wardrobe changes and immaculate head dresses. Again, it’s all about the fashion!
There are so many fond memories we have of our Mom that they could not all be included in this memorial, but here are a few more to enjoy. Mom liked black licorice, a taste she shared with her grandson Jaston and sister Elaine. She loved to putter around in her yard, mowing the lawn, picking weeds, pruning shrubs, and hosing everything off. Her yard was always a little oasis. Mom also made the best, most original Halloween costumes for her kids and herself and Wes, often winning costume contests at dances and cabarets. This knack for Halloween costume creation and love for Halloween has definitely been passed along to Rynel and Ryan. She enjoyed music (mostly rock and roll) and would listen to Bee Gees, Cat Stevens, Prince, ABBA, CCR, Bon Jovi and even Nickleback. She was a very cool Mom to grow up with. She will be dearly missed.
We hope for anyone who reads this or knew Nadean that you think of her fondly. Picture her smiling, all glammed up in one of her stylish outfits, with a grace and panache that only she could pull off. That is the way she would want to be remembered.
As much as our Mom loved her friends and family, she never wanted people to come together to mourn her at a formal Funeral or Celebration of Life. To honour her wishes, there will be no formal Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
