Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Timothy Bradley announces his passing in Saint John, NB on Thursday, July 15th, 2021.
Mike’s passion was his profession. He enthusiastically shared his extensive knowledge and intellectual curiosity both inside and outside the classroom. He had an infectious smile, an affable, witty personality and he genuinely cared about his students, advising them to follow their strengths and interests. “Dr. B” was affectionately known to his students as the “singing professor” for spontaneously and enthusiastically performing a cappella excerpts from his favourite show tunes. He loved to educate and to entertain.
Mike received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Victoria, and his Masters and PhD in Psychology from the University of Manitoba. Psychology, Cognition and the History of Psychology were among the courses he taught at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John campus from 1980 until his retirement in 2017.
A devoted scholar, Dr. Bradley authored over 30 published articles, supervised theses for over 30 honour and graduate students and presented at numerous conferences. He served as chair of the Division of Social Sciences, as chair of the Department of Psychology, and as an active member of the UNB Board of Governors, Senate and key campus committees. He was a driving force and major benefactor of the Barbara Fisher Founder Prize in Psychology. Mike was a tireless, spirited champion of growing UNB into a thriving place for students, staff, and faculty. He was the recipient of the 2010 Distinguished Service Award.
Mike found much joy in fine foods, travelling, fencing, chess, statistics, Suduko and Jeopardy. A self-described “news addict”, Mike enjoyed researching and discussing a variety of topics. He loved to engage people in conversation and had the uncanny ability to absorb and retain knowledge.
Mike was born on July 9, 1946 in Victoria, BC and was the son of the late Patricia Bradley Sedger and Gordon Bradley who was an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He will be remembered by his wife Fam; his children Michael (Elaheh Khozeimeh) of Saskatoon, Arlyn (Philipp Hofmeister) of Germany, and Megan (Didier Jutras-Aswad) of Montréal; step-children Aïda and Amy; grandchildren Sofia and Selene; brother Gordon Bradley of Quebec; step-sisters Marilyn of the US and Rhonda (Mark Fuller) of Vancouver; sister-in-law Linda Sedger of Victoria; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by his step-father Ronald Sedger, step-brother Gerry Sedger, and brother-in-law Ted Rogers.
At Mike’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Condolences and remembrances may be offered to the family at www.fundyfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the M.T. Bradley Scholarship in Psychology (UNBSJ) or to a favourite charity would be appreciated.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff at the Loch Lomond Villa for their expert care and sincere compassion to Mike and his family.
