Obituary
Our beloved brother, uncle, and brother-in-law passed away peacefully on May 29, 2021 at Wentworth Manor in Calgary, Alberta. Mervin was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on August 20, 1949 to Harry and Anne (Tkachuk) Brigidear. He spent a happy childhood growing up with his two brothers and sister in Calder, where he enjoyed the advantages of living in a small community.
After graduating from high school at St. Joseph’s College in Yorkton, Mervin moved to Hamilton, Ontario with his parents, and had the camaraderie of his eldest brother Martin, and many close relatives. He enrolled in a Computer Science Program at Mohawk College in Hamilton and after graduating, was hired to work in Ottawa with Computel. He later accepted employment with Hewlett Packard. He fondly recalled the years he spent in Ottawa. Eventually, he transferred jobs to Calgary after his parents and brother moved back West. He loved living in Calgary. His work took him to many places in the U.S. and Canada.
Mervin had a quick wit. He was skilled at rearranging words to add humor to any situation. He was knowledgeable about all professional sports and followed the seasonal games closely. He learned to curl as a young boy and participated in many bonspiels in Saskatchewan and Ontario. Fishing was another favourite, especially with his Uncle Phillip.
During his last four years of life, Mervin became paralyzed due to a brain injury. He set a great example of grace and dignity in the way he accepted his health condition.
Mervin was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Martin and David Brigidear. Left to treasure his memory is his sister Lorraine who faithfully cared for him in his final years. He will also be remembered by his brother-in-law David Barry, niece Elyse Barry, sister-in-law Darlene Brigidear, niece Karian Brigidear, nephew Craig Brigidear, and grandniece Ariya Brigidear. Interment will be at the Calder Cemetery beside his parents.
