Martin Mendelsohn
Martin Mendelsohn (also known as The Count, Count X, the Mouse, Mousey, Pops and Gramppy; President of Vogue Shoes, Double M Productions and Ultra Limousine), son of the late Sonya Gold and the late Abraham Mendelsohn, of Montreal, checked out of the Presidential Suite on July 26, 2021 at age 83.
Martin is survived by his son Matthew, his adored grandsons Sam & Noah, his best friend Wendy, his sister Carole and brother-in-law Jack, and many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Oh, and his daughter-in-law, Kirsten. Martin was predeceased by his sister Eileen, son Stuart, his pooch Harry and granddogs Gus and Whiskey, all of whom are no doubt thrilled to be reunited with Pops, wherever they are.
The smoked meat and Szechuan purveyors of Montreal also join with the family in mourning the loss of a devoted member of their communities.
Martin was a fun man, a funny man, a shoe man, a ladies man, a baseball man, a well-dressed gentleman, a loyal friend, and a kind-hearted mensch.
Martin loved his two grandsons, ice-cold Coca Cola, great dim sum, a good “bit,” the Montreal Expos and the Habs, and a hot roll at the craps table. Not necessarily in that order.
Martin wasn’t finished with life when life finished with him. There were trips to take, games to watch, stories to tell, meals to eat, capers to plan, and so many milestones to witness in the lives of his precious grandchildren. Those of us who loved him are left to continue Martin’s work: living lives of adventure, eating well, being kind to our friends, collecting moments of beauty and ridiculous anecdotes along the way—some true, but all hilarious.
Martin’s family have done their best to notify Martin’s extensive personal and professional networks of his passing, but have been unable to reach the management of KISS, who will sadly learn of Martin’s death the hard way when they land at the Montreal airport. If you happen to notice a motley band of aging rockers at the curb on the arrivals level, would you kindly let them know the news and maybe give them a lift downtown?
Due to COVID restrictions and common sense, the funeral will not take place in Las Vegas behind the craps table at the Golden Nugget. Instead, Martin’s family and loved ones will gather privately to remember him. Shiva will be observed in the strictest privacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourage Martin’s friends and loved ones to take someone for Peking Duck, order too much food and drink a Coke in his Memory.
2021
