Obituary of Mario Enrico D’Ammizio
D’AMMIZIO, Mario – Passed away peacefully at the Welland hospital on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the age of 74. Loving father of Carla (Hewson) and Michael (Alsop), stepfather of Lee (Alsop) and beloved grandfather of Kate Hewson. Loving brother to Josie (André) Lauzon and Liana (Lorne Adams) Urquhart. Beloved partner and best friend of Tina Alsop. Uncle Mario will be sadly missed and remembered by his nieces and nephews Natalie (Somkiat) Rangkla, Chantal (the late Walter Miller) Deknatel, Angela (Mark) Osborne, David Urquhart and his great nieces and nephews Jonah and Abbey Deknatel and Dreyson and Keaton Osborne. He will be greatly missed by many cousins special friends at Emerald Suites Retirement home and many long time Thorold friends. Mario is predeceased by his parents Rocco and Angela D’Ammizio and Barb (D’Ammizio) Barclay. Mario worked at the Ontario Paper Mill for 34 years. He enjoyed golf, baseball, hockey, football, going to the racetrack and had an immense appreciation for good food. Mario had an extraordinary sense of humor and was the king of one-liners. He loved entertaining his friends and family especially by impersonating Elvis Presley. He loved his family dearly and proudly watched his granddaughter play basketball.
Cremation has taken place and entrusted with Bocchinfuso Funeral Home. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Special thanks to the staff at the Welland Hospital and the telemetry unit for their care of Mario, especially Brittany and Crystal.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
