Marilyn’s Obituary
NEW GLASGOW – Marilyn Ann Reddick, 79, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in the manor with her daughter by her side.
Born in Reserve Mines, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Loretta Hines, and was raised by her loving grandparents, Willie and Katie (Hennessey) Hines. Marilyn attended Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow, where she faithfully served with the Ladies Auxiliary and as church custodian for many years. She was a former member of Ward One Social and Recreation Centre, New Glasgow where she served on the board and as custodian for many years. Marilyn was part of the trio that ran the weekly Ward One Seniors Bingo, of which she was an avid player. She was forthright, discerning, and generous. Marilyn possessed the ability to turn very little into something wonderful. She was a paradox, her seemingly hard shell melted away to a soft, tender heart, especially with her grandsons, of whom she loved dearly and proudly spoke of frequently. For Marilyn, “Life has changed; not ended!”
Surviving are her daughter, Sonya MacNeil, New Glasgow; son, Jason Reddick, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Bailey, Taylor and Jordan; son-in-law, David MacNeil, New Glasgow; “daughter by choice”, Sonya Williams, New Glasgow; niece, Kathy Timmons (Brent), Sydney; nephew, Dean (Betty Anne) Hines, Glace Bay; many nieces and nephews; several step-children and step-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and grandparents, she was predeceased by her husband, John; sister, Karen MacDonald; brother, Timothy “Timmy” Hines; great-nieces, Sarah Timmons and Nicole Watkins.
Marilyn’s initial transition to Glen Haven Manor was challenging. However, the second-floor staff enabled her to feel she was home, to wake excited each morning – loving staff, residents, and her surroundings. Her family are most grateful for the love and care she received, and to Lisa and Lori for spending Thursday nights playing TV bingo, which Marilyn looked forward to each week. “God bless you all” – Sonya.
A private funeral service will be held with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Cape Breton in the summer.
Marilyn’s funeral service will be livestreamed beginning at 12:30 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2021 – service scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. – please click the following link to watch (link will be added before streaming time.)
