Margaret Ernestine Murphy (nee Hughes)
1925-2021
Margaret Ernestine Murphy (nee Hughes) passed away peacefully
at The Mount Continuing Care Community in Charlottetown on Thursday,
February 11th, 2021 in her 96th year. Devoted wife of the late Thomas
Wilfred Murphy, Cumberland.
Cherished mother of Ron, Bob (Elana), Tom (Pauline
O’Donnell), and Edwin Murphy. Loving Grammy to Ava, Will,
Cole and Sam.
Survived by her sisters Anna Duffy (Charlie, deceased), Edna
(Ab Kroetsch) and her brother Gordon (Dorothy). Predeceased by her
brother Alfred (Margie, deceased) and her sister Dorothy Beal (Taylor,
deceased).
Ernestine was born in Worcester, Mass in 1925 to Priscilla
O’Connell and Ernest Hughes. She grew up in Tarantum, PEI
and eventually made her way to the South Shore where family, faith,
and community were central parts of her life.
She loved singing and dancing, genealogy and gardening. She
also baked a mean batch of biscuits and bread devoured by those
welcomed around her kitchen table.
Thank you to all staff at The Mount for their loving care and
kindness shown to our mother.
Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, private visitation at
the Hennessey Funeral Home in Charlottetown and funeral service at St.
Francis of Assisi Church in Cornwall will be held by invitation only.
Interment St. Martin of Tours cemetery at a later date.
