Louise Margaret Mailman
1923-2021
It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our
beloved mother and grandmother, Louise Margaret Mailman, age
97, who passed peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2021 in the palliative
care unit of the Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, Kings
County, NS. Born in Digby, Louise, and her twin Lew, were the first
born of the late Fred and Ruth (Scragg) Daley of Mount Pleasant. After
completing her schooling in Digby, she travelled to Kentville and
attended Mack Business College where she became skilled at typing and
shorthand. Shortly after, she met and married Walter Mailman in August
1950. She put her career ambitions on hold for many years as they
raised their family. After the children were settled in their own
lives, Mom returned to the workforce using her secretarial skills at
Camp Aldershot, Wandlyn Motor Inn and lastly at Acadia Divinity
College as the secretary of the Dean of Theology. Along the way, she
became a serious fan of needlework and quilting. Her projects of
crochet with intricate designs were the envy of many. In her later
years, she was an active member of the Kentville Baptist Church Lady
Quilters and they together produced countless projects for sale and
donation. Soon after, Mom and Dad discovered travelling. First in
camping and then in trailering where they were active members of the
North American Airstream Club. They travelled with their trailer to
many destinations in the US and Canada. Later, they fancied bus tours
which took them to Europe and across the US to as far as California
where they visited with Mom’s brother, Wallie (who she hadn’t seen for
25+ years). However, in spite of their travels, they always returned
to their private, little cottage at Trout Lake in New Albany,
Annapolis County. It was their «special place», and it was
not uncommon to see them sitting together in their sun porch, watching
the beautiful Trout Lake sunsets, which are legendary. Mom continued
to be active in her later years with her quilting and loved her
Selfridge Street home. She resided there until 2014 and then moved to
«assisted living» at Kings Riverside Court (five years) and
onto Evergreen in 2019. Mom is survived by her children, Dr. Brian
(Kelly) of Dartmouth and Sherry Veinotte (Sheldon) of Greenwich; along
with her grandchildren, Christopher Ward (Sophie) of Annapolis Royal
and Laura Beck (Jesse) of Montreal; also Mom’s, sister, Irene Redmond
of Shelburne and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her
husband, Walter in 1994; her brothers, Lew, Wallie, Fred Jr., Bobby;
sisters, Joyce Landers and Marjorie Wilson. Our family would like to
extend heartfelt thanks to Evergreen Home for Special Care for their
kindness and compassion for Mom in her final years. As per her wish,
cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19 protocols, there will be no
visitation or funeral service. A private family graveside service and
gathering will take place at a later date. Donations in Moms memory
may be made to the Pine Grove Cemetery or the Evergreen Home for
Special Care – Palliative Care Unit. Arrangements have been entrusted
to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

and you will be forever in our hearts.
