It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of Louis on April 7, 2021 in Edmonton after a struggle with muscular dystrophy and a stroke.
He leaves in mourning, his daughter Marie Hébert, husband Marc and their children Mathieu, Émilie and Pierre; son Joseph Lirette and his wife Chantal; sister Henriette Lirette; brother-in-law Leon Gendre; sister-in-law Cécile Lirette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Louis was predeceased by his parents Joseph Henri and Rose Alma Lirette; brothers Leo Lirette and Paul Lirette; sisters Rosemarie Gendre and Lucille Neyron; and by his son Marc Lirette.
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, a Virtual Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2021. To watch the service please visit St-Thomas d’Aquin’s Facebook page.
Louis was a very generous and good man who wore his heart on his sleeve. He was a man full of empathy, love, and laughter. Louis even gave a year of his life to help the sisters in St. Lucia. He always spoke with joy of this time in his life. He also enjoyed any time spent with nieces and nephews.
Louis was known for leaving a lasting impression on the lives of those he touched. Whether he was teaching kids the Yellow Polka Dot Bikini song or trying to mask some choice words in French as he worked in his garage in Diamond City so that the neighbourhood kids wouldn’t repeat them. Even in his travels abroad, he always managed to bump into people he knew or make new acquaintances, many of which became life-long friends.
Louis was an incredible handyman and was able to do almost any repair to his home. From carpentry to bricklaying and electrical, he dabbled in all of it. He truly enjoyed tackling home improvements and always had some sort of project on the go. Even though he no longer owned his own home in the later years of his life, he still kept a toolbox full of tools and odd parts in his apartment – just in case.
In the last few years, Louis became an avid coffee drinker and would take his daily trips to the mall food court to meet with his group of friends. Truth be told, it was probably more about the camaraderie than it was about the coffee; but they were always very special moments for him. He laughed as he told stories of being kicked out of the mall because he removed his mask to take a sip with a friend.
Louis liked to tease and was always ready for a good laugh or two. Everyone who has ever met him has probably heard one of his many jokes that he was always willing to share. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his ability to enjoy life, love, and laughter and to give all that he could in everything he did.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Louis Joseph Alphonse Lirette 2021..
