Obituary
Carl Emanual Ludwig (Lou) passed away peacefully at 94 years of age on a bright sunny winter morning. He will be fondly remembered by his wife Anna Maria and his children Ralph (Debbie), Gordon (Maggie), Sonya, Mark, and John along with nine grandchildren.
Lou was born October 11, 1927, in Hamburg, Germany and was the youngest of three children. Lou immigrated to Canada, landing in Montreal in 1953, where he made his way to Alberta, graduating with a degree in Geology and later Commerce at the University of Alberta. Carl Emanual Ludwig and Anna Maria Hoffmann were married in 1961 and were blessed with five wonderful children.
In 1961 Lou converted from the Lutheran faith to become Catholic with the guidance of a spiritual mentor, a faith that carried him steadfast throughout his life. He was an active volunteer at St. Luke’s parish which included many roles including Sunday collections, ushering, sponsoring candidates in the RCIA program, and volunteering for Inn from the Cold. Lou joined Chevron where he worked diligently for 30 years until retirement in 1992 when he became an active member at the Calgary Winter Club at which point he golfed, curled, and was a regular at the gym. He also enjoyed gardening and loved the great outdoors.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive NW) on Monday December 20, 2021 between 4:30 – 5:00pm. Prayer Service to follow at 5:00pm. Private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. A recording of the mass will be available to view the day after the service.
